The Global Coalition of TB Activists were invited to the launch of APCASO’s Strategic Plan and CRG Communication and Coordination Platform Asia Pacific reception on 6th Nov 2015. During her speech at the launch Blessi Kumar, Chair GCTA, officially announced the launch of the “Time for TB” campaign in the run up to the World TB Day 2016. The campaign is a product of the Steering Committee meeting in Bangkok, conducted at the same time. Mrs. Kumar called upon colleagues from the HIV community, saying, “We have worked in silos for too long; and that is not the way that we will be able to end epidemics.”
In her speech, she stated that it was time for colleagues from Malaria, TB, HIV and Hepatitis-C to work towards health; and health with dignity and respect, for all. On behalf of the GCTA, she offered continued support to partners such as APCASO and was received with great warmth and respect by all present. It was heartening to see the friendship and camaraderie with which colleagues from HIV, Malaria and TB came together to reaffirm their commitment to ending these global epidemics.
“We will demonstrate that we can all stand together to fight against stigma and discrimination. And in doing so, we will bring an end to these epidemics”, said Mrs. Kumar. With the launch of “Time for TB”, the GCTA is renewing its commitment to workings towards ending TB.
The time for action is NOW!
