New Delhi: On the 7th of March 2016, the Roosevelt House reception at the American Embassy focused the attention on TB survivors. The event was hosted by H.E. Richard R Verma, US Ambassador to India. In keeping with the theme for World TB Day 2016, “Unite to END TB”, it was the survivors who were the stars of the evening, speaking passionately their experiences. Bollywood celebrity Amitabh Bachchan, a TB survivor himself, spoke about his experience with over-coming TB of the spine. Mr. Bachchan is the brand ambassador for the “Call to Action for a TB-free India”.
The GCTA Chair Mrs. Blessina Kumar was present and spoke at the event. In her speech she spoke about the need for the inclusion of those affected. She emphasized the importance and need to have community-led response in the movement to END TB. It was heartening to note the coming together of individuals from various forums to reaffirm their commitment to Ending TB.
